Vision Statement
Green Body and Mind recognizes the epidemic health disorders, socially destructive, and financially taxing impact the pharmaceutical and psychiatric industries are having on the citizens of Santa Cruz, our community, the nation and the world as a whole.
When most all other industries are seeking methods to become "green" and honor and hold reverence for the natural processes and resources of nature, Green Body and Mind believes the mental health industry needs to do the same.
To deconstruct this sales-driven trend toward a toxic drug-centric treatment model, Green Body and Mind is raising awareness about the negative impact psychotropic drugs and the health issues suffered by those prescribed them are having on our community. As such, Green Body and Mind is submitting a petition by the people of Santa Cruz to urge the Mayor to sign a proclamation titled “Santa Cruz Supports Non-Toxic Mental Health Treatment as First Strategy” which will declare Santa Cruz a Psychiatric Drug-Safe Zone.
By signing the proclamation the Mayor will agree to redirect professional resources and funding toward evidence-based non-toxic mental health therapies supported by positive clinical outcomes. The proclamation demonstrates the collective voice of Santa Cruz citizens, expressed in the signed petition, calling for non-toxic treatment strategies to be provided as a first strategy and for all non-toxic options to be exhausted before medication is considered.
To implement the required changes the proclamation calls for within Santa Cruz County Green Body and Mind will:
1. Educate the public on the true cause of mental distresses and illness providing the necessary health-wise information required to make the best decisions for their mental health care needs. By making the public aware of preventive and corrective therapies employing holistic treatments such as dietary modifications, detoxification, nutritional therapies, and functional and spiritual counseling many will avoid the necessity for prescription-based treatments.
2. Develop a Mental Health Reform Committee
a)Provide a restructured model for mental health care.
b)Provide assistance in restructuring services to ensure holistic therapies are provided as first strike
c)Provide patient intake methodologies that include thorough testing for identification of root cause of mental distress: food chemicals, food allergies, environmental toxicity, diet, malnutrition.

g)Maintain statistics of patient outcomes and follow up findings.
h)Identify areas of psychiatric negligence, misdiagnosis, and prescription malfeasance.

5. Publish and maintain a Green Body and Mind business directory for local and national professional and business entities that support safe, alternative mental health therapies.
6. Encourage Holistic Healthcare Practitioners to adopt small businesses in Santa Cruz county and provide them preventative and therapeutic health care as a pre-emptive service to protect individuals whom can not afford holistic health care from the dangers and health risks of psychotropic drugs.
7. Maintain a website that provides all necessary services and information required to access safe, alternative therapies. Website services include crisis intervention, a community watch forum for reporting psychiatric and pharmaceutical indiscretions, professional clinical database of proven holistic mental health therapies, event calendar, and current affairs in the mental health services sector.
8. Coordinate lectures, music, and art fundraising events.
